Show Transcript
Good morning, Black Twitter!

It’s your hostess with the mostest! Genie Lauren, here, tweeting for people who are tired of being compared to Naomi Campbell.

Listen, guys. I know when I walk into the room these yatches need Tussin cuz I’m sickening, but these comparisons to Noami really do have to stop. It’s way too much pressure on a young lady, and we all know what pressure does to edges. Okay, let me live.

And, let Keke Palmer live too, if she’s tired of people comparing her to Rihanna, then gotdamnit you stop comparing her to Rihanna, mmkay!

Shall you compare her to a summer’s day?

I wouldn’t, but definitely do not compare her to Rihanna guys. Stop it.

You stop it, right now.

And, while we’re at it, stop comparing Brandy to Whitney Houston, okay. It’s not fair to any – . . . what was that? . . .

Nobody compares Brandy to Whitney Houston?

Are you sure because I coulda swore I saw. . . No?

Yeesh. Never mind.

So, anyhoo, it’s another week, and that means another giveaway from Genie’s Wishlist.

This week I’ll be giving away a very comfortable hoodie from 1854 Cycling Co. They’re the newest friend to the show, based in Boston, and they not only sell bikes and bags, they sell these really comfortable hoodies. This hoodie feels like I’m in the arms of an angel. Truly.

If you’d like the chance to win a hoodie – not this one, this one is mine – but if you want your own 1854 Cycling hoodie, all you have to do is subscribe to the YouTube channel, or go to good morning black twitter dot com and subscribe to the newsletter.

If you subscribe to both, you’ll increase your chances. And, obviously, if you’re already subscribed, you’re already in the running to win. Then, be sure to tune in Friday, when I announce the winner.

Oh, and whether you’re watching or listening to the show, like and/or rate it, I’d appreciate it.

So, since Black Twitter Detective agency is real. . . riddle me this. . . who is this girl and where are her friends?

[clip]

Where. Are. Her. People?

She was acting out, so they let her show her ass? . . . Literally?

Why’s your booty tryna leave you behind, ma’am??

How do you not feel that? How did no one tell her?

I’m made of questions. Composed of questions. Created in the image of questions.
Send help! PLEASE.

Okay, moving on. So. . . my timeline blew up the other day because of the drama going on between Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna, and I just want to start by saying I do not care.

I don’t care, and neither do you, and you know how I know you don’t care? Because nobody watched their damn show.

I don’t even know the name of their show but I know nobody watched it because all I saw was headline after headline about how poor the rating were, and how it looked like there’d be no season two. . . just a month after the show premiered.

Ouch.

So, I’ma keep this short and cute because there’s not much there, there. But, I will say, if Rob Kardashian actually is suffering with depression, Blacc Chyna is not the person he needs to be with.

If you are suffering with depression, you do not need to be with someone who doesn’t understand that it’s an illness. You do not need to be with someone who has no patience for your suffering and your recovery.

As someone who suffers with anxiety and depression I can tell you that it is a messy disorder that can have you thinking you’re making progress in one area, and then snatch you back down in the darkness, in another.

It is hard to get your bearings, and find your north to even get to whatever “better” is, when you’re suffering with depression, because your whole perception of your life is trapped in the rinse cycle.

And, if that doesn’t make sense to you. Exactly.

Depression makes no sense when you’re in it. And, it makes no sense when you’re in a relationship with someone who’s struggling with it. But, if you love that person and you want to see them recover (with the understanding that it won’t be easy), you don’t talk about them the way Chyna talked about Rob Kardashian.

You just don’t. And, if you want to get better, for yourself, you don’t stay in a relationship with someone who talks to you the way Chyna talks to Rob Kardashian.

Get up, get out, and get you a safe space, where you can figure out which way is UP, and just start making your way towards the light, Carol Anne. Because, I promise you, unchecked, depression will just keep you spiraling down.

I especially wanted to talk about depression today because, for a lot of people, this time of year is particularly hard. Whether or not they’ve lost family members. I don’t even have bad memories attached to winter time and the holiday season, but for me, just being in the northeastern United States from November through March is really difficult because I struggle with depression.

So, if this is true for you, or you know someone who this is true for, definitely get some professional help. There are a ton of therapy apps that might help you just make it through a single day. If all you can do is take it one day at a time, get some help getting through that day, and when you’ve made it to the other side you can remind yourself that this too shall pass. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I’m actually going to share a link to a Mashable article on good therapy apps in the description for this episode, so you can check it out at your leisure. And, if you know some good resources for people who could use an extra boost this time of year, get at me in the comments on good morning black twitter dot com, or tweet me @gmbtshow. Sharing is caring.

I’m going to start counting down ‘til Christmas. Come on back Wednesday, so we can do this all over again. Alright? Alright. Have a good morning, Black Twitter.
